Every day, people on all continents watch television programs prepared, managed and broadcast by Red Bee Media staff. Every year, the business delivers more than 2.7 million hours of programming in more than 60 languages for nearly 600 TV channels.
We’re looking to bring in skilled, collaborative developers to share knowledge and work with exciting new technologies to create innovative solutions to make media accessible to deaf and blind audiences, as well as understanding how these technologies can enhance the value and use of media more widely.
This role works as part of the Access Services department who provides over 230,000 hours of captioning each year – more than 100,000 hours of which is live. They also provide Audio Description and signing services, making the media and the world more accessible for the deaf and hard of hearing and hard of sight.
What do we expect from you?
The role will require feature development from base requirements and user stories, coordination with test leads and product owners to validate progress, and deployment into test and production environments. Additionally, the role will require developing integration with related systems (e.g. client scheduling software, production software) and for ensuring the optimal configuration is achieved for use in production.

Responsibilities
The role will involve developing and deploying new technology into the Access Services toolkit to enable modern approaches to providing accessibility for broadcast television. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of some or all of the following technologies: Python, Django, Javascript, node.js, Serverless Framework, Amazon Web Services (CloudFormation, VPCs, Lambda, EC2, S3, etc), Jenkins, Serverless and Git.
Development
Build using CD/CI tools on the shared codebase for production backend and frontend systems
Work through defined sprints of work as elaborated with Product Owner
Ensure automated testing is used to drive better development and releases
Hacking together PoCs as requested when trying to establish the feasibility of new ideas
System Administration
Take a proactive lead in the codification of cloud deployments; to deploy, configure, optimize and maintain code releases as products are developed. Support and manage these systems from a 3rd line perspective
Develop automated tests to minimize (manual) technical and load testing
Provide professional and authoritative technical advice to colleagues and clients
Identify risks, issues, and dependencies for technical solutions, operating based on continual improvement
Contribute expertise to assist the development of enterprise architecture, technology roadmap, and policies
Research, assess and recommend emerging tools and technologies
Identify and manage architectural dependencies and design conflicts within projects
Communication
Educate and evangelize the solutions/architecture to colleagues and clients
Involve relevant technologists, managers, and end-users in decision-making, collaborating across the business to ensure optimal outcomes
Escalate technical issues and risks, ensuring that the business impact is understood
Provide briefings, presentations, and recommendations on technology developments
Admin
Proactively ensure systems are documented and technical documentation is provided to support teams.
Maintain release notes for each formal release and ensure these are provided to the operational teams
Ensure changes are managed through the corporate asset management and change management systems
Qualifications
Python/Django or Javascript/ Node.js
Frontend and Backend Development
Serverless architectures
AWS (nice to have)
Experience Requirements
5 years + of relevant experience in the below area
Education Requirements
Degree level education or equivalent experience.
