The Real-Time Information Processing research team within Nokia Bell Labs is looking for a motivated new team member.

You will be part of a highly-skilled research team of computer scientists and engineers that works closely with the Nokia business units on new long term technologies that have the potential to disrupt the company’s product roadmaps.

The team created the WWS (World Wide Streams - see www.worldwidestreams.io) technologies on which the Nokia WISP platform is based. WISP is a large-scale, geographically distributed, stream processing platform that addresses emerging requirements for IoT stream processing: find, filter, transform, analyze, mash-up & deliver live streams. WISP unifies the processing of live data and video streams. It allows to mix & match live streams and process them by flexibly chaining pluggable analysis modules.
Main Job Role

We are looking for multiple passionate Software Engineers (front-end and/or back-end development).

Responsibilities

Become a key expert on the WISP architecture, external interfaces, and internals of the WISP platform.
As a front-end developer (depending on your skills and interests), you
Develop and maintain the WISP tools and user interfaces.
Develop applications on WISP (analysis pipelines and user interfaces)
Onboarding of data & video analytics algorithms on WISP
Co-creating WISP analysis pipelines and user interfaces
As a backend-end developer (depending on your skills and interests), you
Further, develop and maintain the WISP backend software and libraries.
Define & implement integration architectures
Transfer knowledge and WISP assets, and provide technical expertise
Engage with WISP users (customers as well as Nokia Product Units)

Experience Requirements

For front-end development:
Hands-on coding experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, …
Experience with UI development (html5, CSS, React.js), application development
Experience with reactive programming, dataflow programming and/or query languages
For back-end development
Hands-on coding experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, …
Experience with distributed programming and asynchronous communication.
Experience with test frameworks and code quality tools is a plus.
Having an interest or experience with machine learning algorithms is a bonus

Education Requirements

You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering.

Skills

Interest in stream processing, streaming analytics, query languages, data-flows.
You have demonstrable programming skills and you have experience with building software involving a combination of open-source frameworks and libraries.
You are a quick learner and aim to become a WISP expert. You enjoy learning new technologies and SW frameworks.
You combine a personal drive with a commitment to team objectives and you feel comfortable to work autonomously.
You can express yourself fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
