The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Robotics Engineer, are to:
Lead the software development of automation projects which may include: Proof of concept or experimental implementations, deployment, and support of production automation systems software, and sustainment of legacy software;
Follow Bayer and industry best practices;
Plan, prioritize, and execute software development tasks to enable new science;
Ensure all project requirements including safety, data reporting, user interface, machine control, and security requirements are met;
Develop software system architectures and technical strategies within the platform;
Partner with other engineering disciplines, customers and vendors/suppliers to create technical strategies and identify project opportunities;
Produce and review software documentation including requirements, user documentation, release notes, unit tests, integration tests, and other project documentation;
Actively participate in commissioning, testing, startup, and field support for new discovery automated software-controlled research systems;
Participate in cross-functional system architecture reviews and identify risks and design decisions that impact software design system complexity and overall safety;
Support controlling cost and schedule on assigned projects, including epic and sprint planning, project budget/schedule estimation and proposal;
Mentor software engineering staff within the platform in technical development both through formal relationships and informal interactions;
Keep abreast of technologies and trends which may include professional organization membership, attending conferences and trade shows, course work, certifications, or similar activities;
Create intellectual property and adhere to company procedures for intellectual property protection.

Expert in one or more programming languages including C#, Python, Java, C/C++;

Significant and extensive experience in one or more relevant technologies including IoT, machine/motion control, software systems, embedded development, PLCs, and machine to machine computing;
Expert knowledge of relevant software tools including Jira, Git, Visual Studio;
Excellent knowledge of geospatial data and tools;
Experience with image capture, image processing, and machine vision;
Proven track record using project management skills including project planning, scheduling, cost control, and requirements development;
Excellent knowledge of agile software development practices;
Experience communicating with and training support staff;

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or science such as Electrical, Computer, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field with a strong interest in automation with 6 years of programming experience or Master's degree with 4 years or Ph.D. with two years of experience;

A systematic approach to problem definition and solution development;
Ability to excel as a member of cross-functional teams and to participate in multiple projects simultaneously;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to deal with people at different levels of management, engineering, suppliers, and internal customers;
Excellent verbal and written skills in order to communicate with and obtain cooperation from team members;
Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical documents required for project execution;
Business-proficiency of oral and written English language;
Willingness and availability to travel depending on project or business needs.
